In the second half of the 1800’s, a unique character could be found in the American West – the Scout. Kit Carson, Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickok are just a few of the most famous of these highly skilled and highly paid professionals. These men needed garments that were practical and durable, yet decorative, as they were known as much for their flashy way of dressing as for their bravery and adventures. Our medium length leather coats make just as strong an impression today as the ones worn by these legendary Scouts.

Metis leather coats were similar to that of the Euro-North Americans, tailored to fit closely to the body, but manufactured from the skins of game animals. Leather, unlike European cloth was durable, water resistant and suited to life on the prairie.
