About Tom Padgitt Saddlery Waco TX 1872 - 1920s

In the mid 1860s the Railroads were laying their tracks across Texas and with that came the need for a whole lot more because with the Railroad and Teamsters money came trouble in many forms Crime, Indians and the border. In the mid 1800s a Saddle and Harness Maker could follow the laying of the railroad tracks and sell his Leather Goods to the Teamsters, Railroad Workers, Hunters (who supplied game as the railroad moved), Texas Rangers and other Law and Military which happened through and make a great living. One of those Saddle and Harness makers was Tom Padgitt who eventually setup his Saddlery Business in Waco, Texas and it was for those many men he supplied that the Rio Grande Holster Design was patterned and then popularized.
